Rachel Roy talks about her new line for Macy's, Rachel by Rachel Roy. The article goes on to discuss a little about her marriage to hip-hop entrepreneur Damon Dash and their high-profile divorce, her background and her inspiration for her new line.
"I always have one foot in the street so I know not everyone wants to dress like the women they see in music videos. I like self-respecting girls who want a taste level. I wanted to give them clothes they could feel on-trend with but also wear to a job interview"
When discussing her line for Macy's she says, "I was thinking of a risk-taker who doesn't want to show too much skin. But, she's the girl in the crowd from whom others get their style."
She worked at Contempo Casuals and eventually became assistant manager. She moved to New York where she worked at Rocawear for 6 years. She started as an intern and worked her way up to creative director.
"I want to be a good role model and make clothes that will help women feel confident and happy no matter who they are or where they come from."
Roy says that one of her goals as a designer is to give women permission to look different.
